RUS-TER-VAAL.- Sparks will fly when the Sedibeng Boxing Association in conjunction with the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) Sports Department host a Boxing Development Tournament in Rus-ter-Vaal on Saturday. The tournament will see Sedibeng and Ekurhuleni amateur boxing clubs exchanging gloves come Saturday. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, ELM Sports Coordinator, Thanduxolo Madikizela said the tournament is for both boys and girls and is part of the selection process for the Provincial Boxing Championships scheduled to take place in Johannesburg in July. He said the boys and girls who will display their talent on the day have an opportunity to be selected to represent Sedibeng at Provincial Boxing Championships. For years now, ELM Sports Department has been in support of the Sedibeng Boxing Association and boxing clubs. “It is our responsibility to give all sporting codes the necessary support to compete at the highest level. Boxing is one of the sporting codes that are doing very well and many of the young boxers have represented our region both at Provincial and National Championships in the past. We will do everything in our power to support the development of our sports in Emfuleni, including the rural areas. Saturday is going to be exciting with up-and-coming boxers displaying their God given talents. We invite all the local boxing clubs to bring their boxers to be part of this tournament,” said Madikizela who was accompanied by Sedibeng Boxing Association Spokesperson, Bongani Mahlangu. Mahlangu told Sedibeng Ster Sport that he is looking forward to great fights come Saturday. He said that he also started his amateur boxing career taking part in these tournaments until he graduated to professional boxing. “I still remember I used to fight in these tournaments when I was a little boy starting my boxing career.
