Soccer tournaments held during Level 4

"After the games there would be bottle of beers all over the place even next to our yards."

SEDIBENG.- Despite the nationwide lockdown, soccer tournaments took place all over Sedibeng region over the weekend. This is despite the fact that Safa has suspended all football activities after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced nationwide lockdown last Sunday. However, it is life as usual with illegal gambling taking place at various venues in Sedibeng for the past two weekends.  Sedibeng Ster Sport drove to some venues around Sedibeng area, especially in Sebokeng. Local soccer fans packed the soccer grounds to capacity with no masks and social distancing. This is not the first time Sedibeng Ster Sports raises this concern regarding these illegal gambling taking place during the nationwide lockdown. Even the surrounding community  members complained to Sedibeng Ster Sport that this is something that is happening every weekend regardless of the lockdown.

“We can’t even stop our children to go and watches those games because  they don’t understand the consequences of this. We have tried to stop the police vans to inform them about our challenges, but they also just pass without doing anything. These illegal tournaments are organised by the people that we know within our community but there is no one who is brave enough to stop all this nonsense. After the games there would be bottle of beers all over the place even next to our yards.”
