This due to poor numbers of taxi drivers and commuters who came forward to get vaccinated on the day. Despite the fact that the site was just behind the rank, people were very reluctant to get the jab.
It is suspected that this was due to the month-end rush by both commuters and drivers who were too busy with their daily schedules to take time out of their day to get vaccinated.
Vereeniging had three vaccination sites on the day, including a site at the Civic Hall and Sedibeng TVET College. The scenes that transpired at the Vereeniging Taxi Rank were however a contradiction to the other two venues, where people were lining up to get jabbed.
The City Hall was crowded outside with people lining up to get injected. The TVET college also attracted young people looking to receive the jab. Portia Gibson, departmental spokesperson, said they are doing everything they can to bring vaccination sites to people.
“The aim of the drive is to also encourage more men to get vaccinated. We will be having more pop-sites in various areas in the region and we encourage our community to get vaccinated.”
