Suspect arrested after robbing supermarket in Vanderbijlpark

A 40-year-old African male suspect was arrested recently and charged with business robbery while his accomplice managed to get away.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – This is after the two seized an undisclosed amount of money and two cellphones from a Supermarket in Vanderbijlpark.

Police spokesperson Segeant Thembeka Maxambela reports that the complainant  was sitting outside when he noticed an unknown African male who wanted to buy airtime.

“He got up and went into the shop,  the man followed him. The assistant then noticed another African male follow them down the aisle. When he got to the entrance of his counter the other suspect wearing gloves pointed a gun at him.

“The first suspect ordered the complainant to lie down behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones from behind the counter.

Maxambela says that at  this point, the complainant’s friend pulled in with a vehicle.

“The suspect holding the firearm told his accomplice they should go. The suspect that took the money left first and the other suspect  placed the fire arm into the front of his pants and followed.

“The complainant used the opportunity and grabbed the suspect from behind just as he was leaving the shop. The complainant wrestled with the suspect outside and the community came to assist.”

The police were called to the scene and on their arrival,  arrested the suspect. Maxambela says that investigations in the matter are ongoing.
