No popular festive season tournaments due to Omicron?

A huge number of Kaizer Chiefs players and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 and their much anticipated Dstv Premier Soccer League (PSL) game against Cape Town City failed to materialise over the weekend.

SEDIBENG.- With the number of COVID-19 on the rise sports, especially football, might be affected this festive season.

The soccer tournaments that take place during this time of the year in the community might be heavily affected by this. With President Cyril Ramaphosa expected to address the nation this week, many have already predicted that they will spend the festive season in their yards due to the rising numbers of COVID-19, with the new varient being named Omicron.

For example, a huge number of Kaizer Chiefs players and staff members have tested positive for COVID-19 and their much anticipated Dstv Premier Soccer League (PSL) game against Cape Town City failed to materialise over the weekend. This was after Chiefs wrote a letter to the PSL asking for all their December league matches to be postponed until next year. This pandemic will again affect many exciting festive soccer tournaments such as the popular Pooe Festive Soccer Tournament that takes place in Evaton.

Pirates darling, Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea is one of the players who used to entertain local soccer fans with his God given talent during the festive season. He is one of the former professionals who made this tournament famous while still playing for Orlando Pirates, he and former professional soccer players such as his former team mate, Sailor Tshabalala.
