The Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA has rescued a dog from a home in Sasolburg.
This comes after the SPCA received video footage of a Sasolburg dog owner continuously throwing stones at her dogs.
In a statement the SPCA said in the video footage, it can be seen how terrified the dogs are of the owner.
“The one dog was lying on the ground, trying to shield behind the other dog and shivering from fear as the stones hit them in the face. From what can be seen from the video footage, there was no reason for the owner to throw stones at the dogs. This is a pure act of animal cruelty.
Previous complaints were received about abuse at the same property, however, there was no evidence to substantiate the claims. This means the SPCA could not intervene until concrete evidence of the abuse was received.”
This time, the brave complainant caught the abuse on camera!”
It is important for complainants to ensure that they get video footage of abuse. This will assist the SPCA in being able to act. Unfortunately, the courts will not grant us a court order to remove animals without substantiated evidence of abuse.”
The SPCA is still looking for the second dog.
“The owner claimed they sold the dog. We are following up on leads to trace this dog and ensure her safety.”
Charges of animal cruelty will now be laid against the owner in terms of the Animals Protection Act.
