MEYERTON. – Shop owners have accused law enforcement officers carrying out the raid of damaging their goods, looting their stores, harassing employees and shop owners and leaving a trail of destruction in their wake.

Kay Rahim, a local shop owner, accused authorities of bankrupting small businesses after R50 000 worth of stock was taken from her store on Wednesday 16th of February 2022.
She told Sedibeng Ster that a lot of merchandise that was confiscated during the raid is not counterfeit and that she has receipts to prove it.
“They refused us to provide them with evidence,” she claims.
Rahim also complains that local authorities cannot provide her with answers as to where the stock that was confiscated was taken.

Besides this Rahim also claims that the officers were not wearing name badges and refused to identify themselves when asked for identification.
According to police Spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi, the Meyerton police was not involved in the operation and therefore cannot comment.
Sedibeng Ster has not yet managed to obtain comment from the Midvaal Traffic Department but will publish their statement, should we receive it.
Sedibeng Ster made several attempts to get a hold of Karen van Vollenstee, and official from the traffic department said to have knowledge of the raid.
She could not be reached for comment on Thursday or Friday and has not responded to a request to phone us back.
