The victim says she met a man named Paul from Rwanda who was friendly towards her and offered to help her with her problems.
“I told the man all my problems and he took me to a house in Shakespeare Street in Vanderbijlpark where I met with the said ancestors.”
The woman says the ancestors were meant to help her with all the problems she was facing at the time.
“When you get there, you will hear voices but you will never see the persons behind the voices. The voices lead you and they instruct you until you follow exactly what is wanted by them. At some point they even gave me herbs to bathe with.”
She claims she was distressed at the time and tried to do everything she was instructed since she thought she would get a solution to her problems.
The woman says she was pressured to resign by the voices that instructed her and ended up divulging the details of her resignation payout.
The woman states that she gave all her money to the ancestors without even paying off her bond, car and other debt.
“I worked for 15 years and did not even spend a single cent of my payout. It all went to the ancestors.”
The woman says she only realised that she had been taken for a ride after losing all her money.
“I have debt that has not been paid. My bond and children’s school fees are still outstanding. I’ve lost everything.
“I want to tell women not to be fooled by these scammers. They mostly target women, as they are the ones that are vulnerable.”
Police Spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said the house where the woman had been introduced to ancestors was left vacant but police were investigating.
Makhale said that a theft case docket had been opened and investigations were ongoing.
