9-year-old boy killed in taxi violence incident in De Deur

9-year-old Tebogo Sefolo was shot and killed during a taxi violence incident in De Deur on Friday. 

DE DEUR. – Police Spokesperson Sergeant Maria Letsele reports that police received a complaint of a shooting in progress on the R82 next to De Deur Primary School.

“On arrival, police were told that three vehicles were involved in a drive by shooting.  Shots were fired randomly towards a group of Faraday Taxi Association members and the vehicles subsequently sped away towards Johannesburg.”

Letsele confirmed that one African male died on the scene and one was injured.  Letsele adds that a a bus that was transporting learners from Michael Rua Primary School was hit during the shooting, and a learner sustained a gun shot wound to the head. “The learner succumbed to his injuries and passed on at Kopanong hospital in Vereeniging.”

Parents of the deceased, Solomon Mbambane and Mampe Sefolo say that they want justice for their son.

“We are heart broken. We just came back from seeing him and it is very difficult to accept that he is no more.He was just a child just like any other child.  We really have no words.”

Mbambane says the last time he saw his son was when he was going to school. “I told myself that my son is safe because he was going to school. I was shocked when I received information that my son had been shot.”

Letsele further reported that four vehicles  at a Motor Dealer garage were also damaged during the shooting. A case docket of taxi violence, murder and attempted murder is opened for investigation.
