Once seized, the dogs were immediately taken to a private veterinarian for examination and treatment. 𝑺𝒂𝒅𝒍𝒚 3 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒃𝒆 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒅𝒖𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒊𝒓 𝒑𝒐𝒐𝒓 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏.

“When our team fed the dogs, they gulped up all the food as quickly as they could, wanting more. They were evidently starved and scared they would not be fed again any time soon,” says Marlien de Klerk (manager of the local SPCAs).

“𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒐𝒈𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒆𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒘𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒚𝒐𝒏𝒅 𝒓𝒆𝒔𝒄𝒖𝒆. One was extremely ill and had wounds full of maggots, and an old fractured leg that was left untreated.

“Another was also in poor condition with an old fractured leg and the third dog was ripped to shreds by the other dogs and the wounds were so badly infected that the dog already had septicemia. They were on deaths door and it would have been cruel to keep them alive.”
