ELM issues flood warning in effect today

Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has issued a flood warning for consumers residing along the Vaal River and in low lying areas.

In a statement on Wednesday ELM said: “Owing to recent LEVEL 2 severe thunderstorms, the Vaal Dam has been recommended to open the fourth gate at 10h00 and a fifth gate at 12h00 today (Wednesday, 13 April 2022). A total of five gates will remain open until further notice.”

 Consumers residing along the Vaal River and in low lying areas are warned of impending increase in flow levels.”

The Public Safety Department is closely monitoring the water level in the area and the threat of possible flooding.”
