Miss SA top 30 finalist visits NWU

North-West University (NWU) alumna and Miss South Africa contestant Mphoentle Plaatjies (25) from Waldrift recently visited the NWU Vanderbijlpark Campus.

VANDERBIJLPARK. – This forms part of her Miss SA tour leading up to the selection of the top 10 finalists. The former NWU law student and arts and culture committee member is in the top 30 vying for the 2022 title.

Plaatjies holds a Master of Laws from the University of Cape Town and is currently working as a Governance Trainee and Youth Council member at Vodacom.

Plaatjies was given a warm reception by Professor Linda Du Plessis, NWU Acting Vice-chancellor and Vice-chancellor Professor David Modise.

Plaatjies engaged with students on various social and academic issues. She motivated students to be focused and aim for greater heights.

Expressing gratitude for her blossoming career, Plaatjies said all her achievements began at NWU.

“I owe my success to the values and education I received from this university. I hope that this visit will help encourage and inspire current students of this campus.”

Prof Du Plessis expressed pride at the accomplishment of Plaatjies and congratulated her on behalf of the University.

“We are proud of Mphoentle and we wish her every success in the pageant as well as in her career.” Lethiwe Kubheka, NWU’s Arts Co-odinator said Mphontle’s message was extremely relatable to students. She said she hoped her visit would encourage students to avail themselves, take part in co-curricular activities and show up whenever they are required because all these programs are designed for them to unleash their potential.

“May the success of Mphoentle revive every staff member. The effort spent on impacting the lives of our students goes a long way. Let’s continue investing more in developing them and inspiring them.”

Kubheka further asked the NWU community to rally behind Plaatjies and vote for her to get into the top 10.
