SA set to experience largest Supermoon of the year tonight

Moon lovers should expect to gaze Buck Moon tonight

MZANSI – If you are a moon lover, expect to gaze on the biggest moon this year.

At around 20:37 South Africa’s biggest moon will be on the sky awaiting to be glued to.

Today marks the third Super Moon of the year 2022.

A super moon is when the moon appears much larger in the sky due to it being closest to earth in its annual orbit.

And tonight’s super moon is the biggest and closest the moon will come to earth in 2022.

Celestron UK says this Super moon will be 357,264 km away from the Earth.

“Expect it to appear 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual!”

The light from galaxies in the foreground took 4.6 billion years to reach the telescope’s sensors while the galaxies beyond those are even more ancient.

Those that miss it tonight, should not worry as experts say it will still be visible for the next few evenings.
