Plot owner arrested and charged with drug trafficking

The members of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (DPCI) together with the Vereeniging SAPS under the Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit (SOCIU) recently clamped down on a man who was illegally cultivating cannabis on his plot in Bronklane, De Deur.

DE DEUR. – This is after the team received a tip-off from a reliable source informing them of the illegal operation.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Shaan Motsapi reports that a search and seizure warrant was obtained and executed on Wednesday.

“While the police were busy searching on the premises, they discovered fertilizers and products including equipment used in the cultivation of cannabis.

“The owner of the plot was found on the premises and immediately arrested on a charge of drug trafficking.”

Motsapi says the suspect will soon appear at the Vereeniging magistrate court on a charge of drug trafficking.

Motsapi said the cannabis found on the plot had an estimated street value of R500 000.
