Police arrest two men transporting illegal firearms from KZN

Two males were arrested during an intelligence driven operation on the N3 Highway for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. 

HEIDELBERG. – It is reported that the firearms and ammunition were in transit from Nongoma in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) to Vosloorus.

Police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi reports that members of the South African Police Services’ Crime Intelligence together with Tactical Response Team and  Metro police members operationalised the intelligence received.

“The team subsequently conducted an operation on the N3 Highway in Heidelberg and recovered a firearm and three ammunition from a Toyota Corolla.

“Four more firearms and 28 ammunition were recovered from a  Siyaya taxi.”

Moloi adds that both the drivers of the vehicles were arrested at the scene for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The suspects will soon appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate Court.
