Evaton and Orange Farm top in car hijackings
The Evaton and Orange Farm area are amongst the top in car hijackings in Gauteng, this is according to the recently released South African Police Services (SAPS) statistics.
SEDIBENG.- The Evaton police would like to warn motorists about carjackings in the area. Police Spokesperson, Thulisile Msibi said that the incidents of hijackings takes place at different places and times of the day, therefore motorists should always be cautious.
“Although the station is making strides and efforts in ensuring that all motorists and their vehicles are safe within the precinct, it is also necessary for motorists to be vigilant in the area.”
Motorists must take heed of the following tips.
# At a traffic light, speed humps and stop signs ensure that all your doors and windows are locked.
# Avoid parking in front of a girlfriend’s place and sit in the car, rather lock the car and sit in the house.
# Avoid parking in isolated places at night like soccer fields, bushes and dumping sites especially with partners.
# Listen to your gut feeling, if you suspect any vehicle following you, call the police or drive to the nearest police station. (08600 10111)
# Do not stop around hijacking hotspots or any secluded areas especially when trying to relief yourself.
#Do not pick hitchhikers, particularly when you are driving alone.
# Avoid distractions such as being on your phone, drinking and driving.
#Increase caution at intersections- always keep a look out for people loitering around your car or for any sudden activity around your car.
