SEDIBENG.- Makhura who has been Gauteng Premier for eight years is also said to be resigning as a Member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature. Makhura assumed the position of Premier in 2014 taking over from former Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane.
The resignation or ‘step down’ was expected as traditionally, the African National Congress (ANC) has always had its Provincial Chairperson as Premier in the provinces, and its President as the President of the country. Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi was recently elected as the ANC Gauteng Chairperson, he is expected to fill the Premier position.
