Fighting hunger, one meal at a time

Like Jesus who served his disciples bread in the bible, a servant of God is extending his hand through a feeding scheme programme in his township.

EVATON – Gift Mtambo, started a feeding scheme together with his wife Catherine, from his church offerings, feeding underprivileged children in Evaton North.

The feeding scheme was established in May 2022 and feeds between 80 to 100 children every Friday.

Scores of children gather as they wait for their Friday meals.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Mtambo said “I saw the high employment rate in the township of Evaton North that led to poverty. So, me and my wife decided to help with the food drive as we believe in the ministry of giving”.

“We started running the feeding scheme with our church offering but later managed to get sponsorship from angel Network SA,” he said.

According to the Pastor at Consuming Fire Apostolic Ministries, their aim is sometimes hindered by financial challenges.
When it comes to challenges, Mtambo says at times it is financial challenges as the number keeps increasing and even adults joining to be fed.

“We would like to see the food drive feeding more people on daily basis, giving out monthly hampers, supplying more people of the whole Vaal with its own warehouse,” he said.

Mtambo pleaded with those with a giving heart to help donate and see the course grow and reach other impoverished families.

“The community can also donate by bringing in grocery, clothes or any form of donation. Anyone with the interest of donating can contact Gift Mtambo on 071 853 6370,” he said.
