Stolen tractor discovered at Vereeniging taxi rank project

An alleged stolen TLB tractor was found doing work at the Vereeniging taxi rank project recently handed over to resume for construction.

VEREENIGING – On Thursday afternoon, an intelligence driven operation which followed a tip-off, lead Sedibeng Flying squad police to the tractor on Taxido Road and discovered with tampered chase number and without registration plates.

The discovery happened a day after Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi together with Roads and Logistics MEC Kedibone Diale handed over the Vereeniging taxi rank project to Gautrain.

Lesufi was accompanied by Social Development MEC Mbali Hlophe, Sedibeng District Mayor Lerato Maloka and Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor Sipho Radebe.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Vereeniging police spokesman Captain Fikile Funda confirmed the confiscation of the tractor.

“We can confirm that a TLB suspected to be stolen was booked at our VCIU for further investigation after it was found with the chase number tempered. The seizure followed an intelligence that was received and ultimately operationalized,” he said.

In recent month Emfuleni Local Municipality lost one of its TLBs after they were hijacked in Vanderbijlpark.

Ster team reached out to the municipality to determine if the discovered TLB in Vereeniging could be the one.

Following several inquiries, the means made for clarity were unsuccessful as the municipality couldn’t respond to the paper.

At the time of going to print, the municipality, still haven’t responded to the media inquiries.
