
MIDVAAL. – The Meyerton SAPS together with various stakeholders recently launched 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign by walking the streets of Meyerton.
The 16 days campaign is a United Nations campaign which takes place annually from 25 Novembe to 10 December.
It focuses on raising awareness to the impact that gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) has on women and children.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, police spokesperson Constable Tlaleng Moloi said it is important to bring awareness to communities about the safety of women and children.
“The purpose of the awareness campaign is to address gender based violence and address the crimes that affects LGBTQIA+ community in our society.
“During the event, the community was educated about services rendered by various organisations. Attendees were provided with contact details that will assist them in case of emergencies.”
The event was carried out in conjunction with Midvaal Local Municipality’s (MLM) MMC for Social Services Thembi Modiba, local Councillors, various departments and organizations.
