Fun-Run in commemoration of the signing of Constitution

"It is sad because to some it will be business as usual, come 10 December because many have forgotten that the country’s constitution was signed in our own township and region."

SHARPEVILLE.- The Lekoa Athletics Club in conjunction with AMF Church will host 5Km fun-run at George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville on Saturday.

This fun-run is part of the commemoration of the singing of the country’s constitution by former South African President ,Nelson Mandela at George Thabe Stadium in 1996. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the Lekoa Athletics Club Founder, Sandile Ncala who reflect on the historical political event when former President Nelson Mandela singed the country’s constitution  in Sahrpeville on 10 December 1996.
Ncala said that many have forgotten this significant event in the history of politics that the South African constitution was signed here in Sharpeville.

“ This is something that we must be proud of and be celebrated every year because it forms part of our history. As Lekoa Athletics club we will always remember this day and commemorate it every year. Everyone is welcome to be part of this fun-run, young and old to commemorate this important event in the political calendar. This region has a rich history and we must never neglect it for the sake of our children and as Lekoa Athletics Club we are looking forward to commemorating this historical day come Saturday,” said Ncala.
