SEBOKENG.- Knowledge never goes on holiday!
The Midvaal Local Municipality’s (MLM) Lakeside library presented a chess and checkers tournament for kids as part of the library’s holiday program. The municipality said that the kids competed with other avid chess and checkers players in group knockoffs from 12 December 2022, the finals were held on 14 December 2022.
“This is in line with the libraries 2022 theme of rediscovering libraries as spaces not only for reading but also spaces for leisure, recreation, and a hub of the community. Chess and checkers are important for developing minds, the games can improve critical thinking, creativity, logic, grit, and pattern recognition skills.”
Other activities that were conducted at various libraries, included Christmas card making, coding classes, outdoor games, and story reading using tablets.
