SEDIBENG. – It was a gathering of former Vaal football’s finest when former soccer players met at Bra Joe’s place in Zone 10, Sebokeng recently.
This reunion was organised by former Bra Thomas Blackpool owner, Molefe Meloa with main aim being to reunite former amateur, semi and professional players who once graced Vaal football. The former soccer greats were playing for different football clubs even though the majority played for the now defunct Bra Thomas Blackpool and Rainbow Juventus FC. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Meloa hailed the event as a success.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it was great to see some of the former soccer players who hoisted the Vaal flag high in their playing days. Former Orlando Pirates dribbling wizard, Steve “Chippa” Lekoelea was among the former greats who attended this reunion. To make it interesting, there was a moment of silence to remember those who have since passed away, and former Kaizer Chiefs deadly striker Fortune Koloba was one of those who were remembered on the day.

“I want to thank everyone who responded positively to our invitation. I was overwhelmed by the attendance and we intend to do this every year and to visit all the areas in the Vaal. It was such an honour to see these guys because if it wasn’t for them Vaal football wouldn’t be where it is today. I also want to thank Bra Joe Moloi for hosting us,” said Meloa.
