SASOLBURG – Zwane together with members of his office, showered new-born babies and their mamas with gifts.
The hospital had two new born baby boys on Christmas and the expectation of more babies to be born kept a trio of midwives on their toes.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Zwane said his visit was a decision taken longtime ago and will continue to many other hospitals in his region.
“We are a year in government and I took a decision to embark on an outreach programme by visiting hospitals. We need to share the spirit of goodwill and giving to these new baby mamas for bringing new life to earth,” he said.
Zwane further added that not only mothers who gave birth on Christmas will receive goodies.
“We gave the entire maternity ward presents and we didn’t target mothers on whether they can provide for their kids or are struggling. We gifted all mothers as a token of appreciation for undergoing birth. Maternity is not an easy journey and having such brave women led us to appreciating these ladies,” he said.

Nursing Manager at the hospital, Tutu Moeketsi thanked the mayor for the gifts and visit.
“On behalf of the hospital, we would like to thank Metsimaholo municipality for the visit. Christmas is a very special family day and the mayor decided to leave his family to be spend the day with our communities. This is a good gesture,” she said.
“Maternity ward is one of our special wards and very challenging. Our nurses make sure they work with precision and determination to make sure both lives [mothers and babies] are saved during the birth process. We thank the mayor and his stuff for the visit and presents. We want to also thank our midwives for an awesome job well done,” she said.
Mosomi Motloung (26), one of the new mothers said Zwane’s visit means the world to them.
“My family doesn’t know that I gave birth on Christmas. I tried to call them, but no one could be reached. I was losing hope and felt neglected but seeing the mayor visit, this really showed me that I am loved. Hopefully the mayor will extend his visit to other mothers, not just me. His warm heart and spirit of giving definitely shows how much he loves his people [citizens],” she said.
