Ngezana starts… Radebe on the bench

The other Vaal-based player, Sabelo Radebe was on the bench as Chiefs claimed bragging rights against the Mighty Buccaneers.

SEDIBENG.- As Sedibeng Ster Sports predicted, Siyabonga Ngezana was the only Vaal-based player who participated in the Soweto derby when Kaizer Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the DSTV Premiership match at FNB Stadium over the weekend.

Chiefs goals came in the dying minutes of the game via an own goal of Olisa Ndah who headed back into his own net to give Amakhosi a lead late in the game. At this stage, the game looked as if it would end with a goalless draw.  As for Orlando Pirates, there were no Vaal players either on the field or on the bench. This is unlike Pirates who have been known for having players from Vaal for all these years in the Soweto derby.

With Radebe on the bench, Kaizer Chiefs Diski Challenge graduate Mduduzi Shabalala kept the Amakhosi’s faithful on the edge of their seats with his God-given talent. Shabalala brought back those good old memories when the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Jabu Pule, Thabo Mooki, and others used to entertain the supporters with their God-given talent, especially in the derby.

Every time Shabalala touched the ball, Amakhosi fans would be on their feet as he showcased some silky skills. Speaking after the game, Arthur Zwane was full of praise for the youngster and how he handled himself despite the big occasion.
