MIDVAAL. – Midvaal Local Municipality through the MMC for Development and Planning Mokete Motsamai, has kept the promise to move flood victims to Sicelo, Erf 188.
Following recent floods that damaged people’s property, leaving them to pick up the pieces, Motsamai carried out flood assessments in Sicelo and found some residents to be living in terrible conditions.
Motsamai during the assessments compiled a data base of residents who had been most affected and with homes that were in a terrible condition. Motsamai made a promise to residents to move them to a better area where they would not be affected by floods.
“Keeping our unflinching commitment to providing a permanent solution to our people who were situated under power lines and affected by floods, we allocated 25 identified persons living in dire conditions to Sicelo ERF 188.
Motsamai says some of the beneficiaries were badly impacted by heavy downpours, situated in flood stricken parts of Sicelo, Kivukiland.”
Motsamai says the conditions called on MLM to provide short-term relief while planning for long-term solutions to those who are desperately in need due to dreadful living conditions.”
So far, MLM has moved more than 30 people with the help of the Red Ants who were contracted to assist with the move and provide shack material to the affected families.
