Love or hate them – they are re-writing SA football history!

"It is not a secret; the results are there for everyone to see!"

SEDIBENG.- In the past Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates used to dominate South African football but what went wrong?

The two Soweto giants have become a former shadow of themselves with Mamelodi Sundowns having now taken over from South African football. The question is, what went wrong with these two Soweto giants?

Recently they have become second to Mamelodi Sundowns who have been dominating South African football for the past ten years. Point in case, this Tshwane outfit was recently crowned the DStv Premiership champions, six times in a row, which is a record that will be very difficult for any PSL team to break.

For example, in the past Kaizer Chiefs was known as a cup specialist winning every trophy on offer since the days of Mainstay Cup, BP Top 8, Iwisa Spectacular, Rothmans Cup, and BobSave Super Bowl Cup to mention but few.

On the other hand, Orlando Pirates made history as the first South African club to be crowned the CAF champions in 1995. This was a famous victory not only for Orlando Pirates but for South African football at large. This was the era where Pirates had great players with one of our own, Phiri Tsotets, forming part of that legendary squad.

But now things have changed with Mamelodi Sundowns ruling the South African football left, right, and center. No one believed Patrice Motsepe when he took over and declared that Sundowns would conquer African football. He went out on a  buying spree, buying the best players not only in South African football but as far as South America, and other parts of the world.

However, many so-called soccer experts are accusing Sundowns of killing South African football especially Bafana Bafana by signing the best players with others “rotting” either on the bench or stands.

The fact of the matter is that Sundowns is transforming African football, to say the least. The club is now one of the best in the African continent beating the likes of Al Ahly who is regarded as the best club in the continent.

As if this is not enough, the club is set to add a second star on their jersey and TOUCHLINE has no doubt that they will achieve this feat which seems to be mission impossible to others.

Love or hate them, they are rewriting South African football history!
