VEREENIGING – Every corner of a different kasi in the Vaal is filled with piled-up illegal dumping sites and running sewer.
But this may become a thing of the past, as Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is adamant that the government is set to deal with those headaches at point blank.
Lesufi touched on five basic service delivery issues faced by Sedibeng residents and claimed ‘dealing with them, means the government has started making a dent in service delivery’.
The Premier said R400 million is set aside to help deal with the service delivery problems and about 35 trucks are already dispatched to deal with sewer.
His remarks were made during Deputy President Paul Mashatile’s visit on Wednesday, April 12.
The visit was a follow-up to last year’s service delivery imbizo.
According to Lesufi, the government is aware that some of the daily challenges faced by residents include electricity, heaps of rubbish piling up on roadsides, and sewage spills.
“There are five critical issues in this area if you can resolve them, it means that the government has started to make a dent in service delivery. It’s the issue of water, electricity, waste removal, health infrastructure,” he said.
“Those are the areas, so today almost 35 news cars dedicated to remove blockages of sewer have been dispatched and the National Department of Water has budgeted R400-million for this area alone to deal with matters related to water and sewage,” he said.
