MIDVAAL. – Midvaal Local Municipality (MLM) says it does not condone the behaviour of dumping infants. This is after a recycler found an infant in a skip bin on Tuesday morning in Savanna City.
In a statement, MLM said the South African Police Service (SAPS) was contacted.
“Various avenues of help are available if you do not have the means to take care of a child. We are concerned about the welfare of the mother and request any person with information to please report to De Deur SAPS on 016 590 9200, PR Cllr M Kolisang on 082 484 0732 and MMC T. Modiba on 072 570 4410.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale confirms that police were summoned to Savanna City Road No1 pocket 4.
“On arrival, police found that a concealment of birth incident had taken place.”
Acting District Commisioner Brigadier Mbangwa Nkhwashu pleads with the community to assist the police in tracing the person responsible.
Nkwashu further warns the community to refrain from concealing birth as it is a criminal offence.
Makhale said a concealment of birth case docket was opened by De Deur SAPS.
