SHARPEVILLE.- Sharpeville was the place to be when the Sedibeng Boxing Association hosted a successful boxing tournament at Sharpeville Boxing Club recently.
The Sharpeville community came in numbers, young and old, to watch this amateur boxing with boxing clubs coming from as far as Rustervaal and Heidelberg participating in this action galore boxing mania. It was action galore through the day until the afternoon with the young boxers trading their gloves in the ring.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Thandoxolo Madikizela said this was a great advert for the development of Sedibeng boxing, to see parents and the community come in large numbers to support this sport, especially their children.

He told Sedibeng Ster Sport, that he was overwhelmed by the large attendance of the Sharpeville community, especially parents. Madikizela was also full of praise for the boxers for their outstanding performance on the day. Those who came to watch went home entertained from the first fight until the last fight of the day.

“ Look at how everyone enjoys each and every fight cheering their children, win or lose. This is what we want to see happen every weekend where parents spend the whole day supporting their children and participating in sporting activities. It is all our responsibility to encourage our children to take part in sports to reduce crime within our community,” said Madikizela.

It was also encouraging to see young women being judges at this tournament as part of women’s empowerment in boxing.
