SHARPEVILLE.- Boitumelo Maseko (20) who is a Sedibeng College IT student was one of the female judges at the Sedibeng Boxing Tournament held at Sharpeville Boxing Club recently.

This was her first experience as a judge but she did well very well under the guidance of seasonal campaigners such as Leonard Lesiba who showed her how to do things and score points among others. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, sitting on the other side of the ring, Maseko who looked nervous when the first fight was about to start, told this journalist that this was her first experience to be a judge.

She told Sedibeng Ster Sport that, she is nervous because this was her first experience being a judge in a boxing tournament. This beautiful young lady from Boipatong told Sedibeng Ster Sport she is interested to become a professional female boxing judge.

“Look, if there are any courses that I will love to attend because this is what I want to do because I’m involved with both Wonderboy and Royal Boxing Club from Boipatong. Before the fight, I was told how to judge and I was nervous in the first two to three fights but with the help of some experienced referees/judges, they made my job easy showing me how things are to be done.

“I must say, I had a great day spending the whole day next to the boxing ring as a judge. This was something I will cherish for the rest of my life. I’m aware that not many women are involved in boxing, especially at this level and I want to be one of the few to serve in boxing.  I’m grateful for this opportunity to be a judge and I was not aware it is something that is simple I was told to be fair regardless of which club I come from,” she told Sedibeng Ster Sport.
