SHARPEVILLE.- Local ex-professional players graced the 1st Annual Fallen Brothers 5Km Fun Run/Walk held at Meadowlands Park in Sharpeville on Sunday morning.
This event was organized by Brotherhood in honour of fallen brothers. Some of the former professional players who came to support this initiative were Peter Khoabane (Super Sports), Phiri Tsotetsi (Orlando Pirates), Steve Lekoelea (Orlando Pirates), and Abia Nale (Kaizer Chiefs).

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Khoabane who spoke on behalf of the above-mentioned ex-professional hailed the event as a success. He told Sedibeng Ster Sport that it was overwhelming to see that people in the community still appreciated them. He said they felt honoured to be chosen as the ambassadors of this event.
“As ex-professional players, we want to thank the organizers of this event because they showed how much they still valued us despite the fact that we are no longer playing at the highest level of football. It was great to be part of the event and we are looking forward to next year to be part of this event again.”

“We also were excited to do something apart from playing soccer and we all had fun, running alongside young and old people in our community. This is what we need to see happen in our community with ex-professional players involved in the community projects such as this one. It is not about money but being part of the initiative,” said Khoabane.
