VEREENIGING. -Semi-finalist Brenda Logi Mampuru is gunning for this year’s Mrs Sedibeng title. The 43-year-old is a Professional Nurse and currently works in the High Care Unit at Sebokeng Hospital.

Speaking about what made her enter the pageant, Mampuru says she has taken a leap of faith to pursue her dream of becoming a model after she put a hold on her modelling for her studies and to build a family.

“I started entering pageants when I was 13 years old and got a lot of inspiration from my grandmother who also loved to perform on stage. She was my biggest supporter and always told me that I can achieve anything I put my mind to.

The mother of three attributes her strong character to the positive female role models she had in her life growing up. “I grew up in a small village in Limpopo and I was raised by a strong woman who ensured that my sibling and I never wanted for anything. This is what makes me believe that women are capable of greatness.”

Mampuru calls her career a calling because as a young girl, she always wanted to help people and give them healing. “I become so emotional when I see someone who came into the hospital frail and weak receiving the best care and finally gets discharged. I beam with pride when I meet former patients out and about at shopping malls and restaurants because that in itself is proof that I’m fulfilling my purpose.”

Because of the sensitive nature of her job, Mampuru goes beyond the call of duty as she has gathered the experience to counsel family members in dealing with the stress of having sick loved ones.

Talking about the kind of doors winning the title will open for her, Mampuru says she can finally showcase her talents and market herself as a brand.

“I’m unique and there’s no other person who can match my personality and attributes. I would like to venture into the entertainment industry and I believe that this is a great platform to promote myself. I want to show young women that their dreams are valid and are within their reach. I want to encourage them to go to school and become what they have always wanted to be.”
