Sharpeville Q4 filling station bombed and robbed

About ten armed suspects bombed and robbed Q4 Fuel filling station in Sharpeville in the early hours of Wednesday morning, May 10, and fled the scene with undisclosed amount of money.

SHARPEVILLE – In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, May 10, a group of armed thugs robbed the Q4 Fuel filling station in Sharpeville near Tau-bazaar and Phelindaba cemetery.

According to police spokeswoman Constable Doris Nkosi, about ten suspects arrived on the scene, broke glass doors, gained access, and bombed Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) inside the shop.

While petrol attendants hid inside the waiting room attached to the convenience store, the armed gang ambushed them at gunpoint and robbed them of their belongings.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Nkosi said the suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money after the bombings.

“On May 10, 2023, at about 00:40, petrol attendants heard a noise coming from the shop, seemingly of people kicking the glass door. The complainant stated that he peeped and saw plus or minus ten black African males covered with balaclavas trying to force open the shop door,” she said.

“The two attendants who were on duty at the time, bracketed the door while the group of armed robbers started booming inside the store. The bombings went out several times. The suspects went to the waiting room where the duo hid and fired shots at the door,” she added.

Nkosi said the suspects bombed the entrance door to the waiting room, where they robbed the duo.

“When the suspects gained access to the waiting room after bombing the door, they robbed the victims of their belongings and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Suspects are still at large and no one was injured,” she said.

Nkosi urged the community to report any information that may help lead to the arrest of the wanted suspects.

“Police plea with community members or anyone who might have any information that can assist in arresting the suspects to give an anonymous tip off on 08600 10111 or use
MySAPS APP on social media,” she said.

Cases of ATM booming, business robbery and attempted murder has since been opened following the incident.
