Illegal shebeen closed, owner arrested

“Selling liquor without a licence will not be tolerated and all who partake in selling liquor without necessary permits will be arrested."

DE DEUR – A 59-year-old is behind bars and set to appear at the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said the man was arrested during an instalment of Operation Okae Molao which took place on Thursday, May 25, in De Deur.

A group of law enforcers comprising the newly launched Crime Wardens, Police officers and Community Patrollers made the arrest at Plot 23, after receiving a tip-off about the illegal tavern.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Maxambela said “Officers conducted a thorough search and found liquor. The suspect failed to produce a licence or permit and was arrested”.

Maxambela said the confiscated liquor is estimated to have a value of R15 000.

“When our officers further searched the premises, 20 litres of oil and about 500 boxes containing 500ml of Toyota oil were also confiscated. The value of the oil is estimated to be R60 000,” she said.

Maxambela said police are investigating a case of selling liquor without a licence and possession of suspected hijacked property.

Brigadier Elias Mokoena welcomed the job done and sends a strong message that Sedibeng district is not a place for lawlessness.
