Lekoa Athletics Club hosts Heroes Cross Country

The cross country is meant to honour the yesteryear athletes.

SHARPEVILLE.- The Lekoa Athletics Club will host Annual Heroes Cross Country at George Thabe Stadium in Sharpeville on 10 June.

This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster Sport by the club founder, Sandli Ncala who said that the cross country is meant to honour the yesteryear athletes who played a part in the development of athletics in this country.

For years now, Lekoa Athletics Club has taken the initiative to remember those yesteryear heroes such as Hosia Tjale, Titus Mamabolo, Ernest Tjele, Mathwes Temane, Sydney Maree, Blanche Moila, Vincent Radebe, Sam Tshabalala, Norman Dlomo and John Morapeli to mention but few.

These above-mentioned runners were prolific athletes who represented South Africa in the international sporting arena. Ncala said there is no way they can just forget the contribution of these runners as they made it in South African athletics.

“As Lekoa Athletics Club we will continue to look back and acknowledge those athletes for their role in athletics. We appeal to local business people and our municipality to come on board to make this event bigger and better.
