SHARPEVILLE.- SHARPEVILLE._ Assumpta Primary School learners will represent Sedibeng at the Spelling Provincial Competition.
The two school learners are Bokang Motaunyana (11) and Xolisa Wiso (10). The two became winners during the district school spelling competition that was held in Heidelberg recently. This good news was broken to Sedibeng Ster by the school Principal, Clement Nkhumise who was excited about his school’s achievement. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Nkhumise said this is great news for the school especially for these learners to restore the culture of reading.
He believes that social media has a negative impact on reading and word spelling and that learners have adopted the bad habit of not writing proper English words.
“We are very proud as a school and thankful to their teacher who is their coach in spelling words. I have no doubt that they will put the school on the map especially the Sedibeng region because they will not only represent our school but the entire Sedibeng region. I’m really proud of these two learners and I hope they will grow up with this and make a career out of it,” he said.
Nkumise told Sedibeng Ster that the school will give the two learners the necessary support to ensure that, come the day, they will be ready to compete against the best in the Gauteng Province.
