VEREENIGING. – The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Vaal Region made history over the weekend after electing 35-year-old Prudence Hlanyane (35) as the party’s first female Chairperson in the Vaal Region.

The announcement was made during the Regional Congress at the Barnyard in Three Rivers, where key leadership positions were contested for election by delegates.

MPL Désirée van der Walt, DA Gauteng Vaal 2023 Regional Congress Presiding-Officer says, “As presiding officer, I am excited to announce the DA Gauteng in the Vaal’s new regional leadership that will take the Vaal Region’s formidable DA team into the coming election campaign.”

Van der Walt announced Nkosi Duncan Mthembu as the Regional Vice Chairperson, Peter Andre Verbeek as the Regional Finance Chairperson, Mary-Anne Myburgh as the Regional Membership Chairperson, Grace Damon as the Regional Fundraising Chairperson and Tumelo Ramongalo as the Regional Training and Development Chairperson.

Speaking with excitement, Hlanyane said the leadership elected at the congress boasts diversity.
“We are the most diverse executive and more than anything we have young people serving in the REC,” she said

Hlanyane says her passion for helping people is what got her into politics.

“Being the regional chair only supplements my power in ensuring that the people in the Vaal are well served. Cadre deployment and basic service delivery are among the things that I would like to work on. I want to give the Vaal people the experience of having a DA-led government and I will do this through my ward Ward 15.”
