EVATON. – A man appeared at the Sebokeng Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 05 July to answer to a charge of murder after he allegedly stabbed and killed his childhood friend, Lehlohonolo Moshodi (25) from Evaton West on Sunday evening.
It is alleged that the two friends fought over a chair at a local tavern on Sunday afternoon, 02 July 2023.
Following the incident, Lehlohonolo is said to have gone home to report what had happened but was fatally stabbed by the suspect when he went to a shop, just a few meters away from his home.
Mother Mamokete Moshodi says, “My son arrived home and told us that he had an argument with his childhood friend over a chair and decided to come to avoid the friend.”
Moshodi said Lehlohonolo alerted her that he is going to the shop and minutes later she heard screams coming from the direction of the shop and that is when she rushed to the scene.
Brother Peter Moshodi (37) said the suspect had been looking for his brother with a knife and other weapons following their argument.
Moshodi was rushed to the local clinic where he succumbed to his stab wounds.
The police confirmed that a suspect was arrested on Monday and charged with murder. The case has been postponed to Wednesday 12 July.
