‘Investigate R40 000 salary without work’: EFF Sedibeng

"We will not allow any further money leaks in the municipality under our watch."

SEDIBENG. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has called for an investigation into allegations of payment of R40 000 monthly salary to an Emfuleni Local Municipality (EFF) employee.

Reports have said that the ELM has apparently been paying Silence Munwai, a Senior Electrical Engineer, for the past four years, while he sits at home and does nothing.

According to the Democratic Alliance’s (DA), Kingsol Chabalala, a member of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature and the DA’s Chief Electorate in Emfuleni North, Munwai has been sitting at home since 2019 while drawing an annual salary of R597 022.00.

Emfuleni’s Manager of Parks and Cemeteries, Sithembile Ngobeni, is said to have obtained a protection order against Munwai after he apparently threatened to shoot and kill Ngobeni. This after Ngobeni apparently addressed Munwai about him not being at work all the time.

Calling for an investigation into the matter, Isaac Khithika, EFF Sedibeng Regional Chairperson said that the ELM has serious financial challenges which have crippled the municipality and made it impossible for it to render services to the people.

“It is no secret that Emfuleni has collapsed under the ANC-led Administration. This latest allegation is of serious nature in that, if true, money that has to be used for service delivery is being diverted. We are calling on the mayor Sipho Radebe to ensure an investigation is conducted with immediate effect.”

Khithika further said that they will write to Radebe and give him 48 hours to institute an investigation failure to which, “ the EFF will use its superior logic and activate a strategic revolutionary program to ensure this matter is put to rest.”
