Through the operational plan put in place on the 15th of October, all hands are on deck as the SAPS protects citizens and their properties through various Festive Season operations.
This has been achieved by maintaining high visibility on the roads and at ports of entry to arrest criminals and curb any form of criminality in transit.
“Since the 15th of October, police have conducted 3 364 roadblocks across the country, while officers have conducted over 200 thousand Stop and Searches and 26 569 vehicle check points.”
The SAPS reports that over 500 thousand vehicles and foot patrols across the country have been conducted in various communities.
“Pursuing wanted suspects, murder, rape, and GBV suspects has also been high on the priority of police work. Over 6 244 tracking and tracing operations have been conducted since October.”
Since the beginning of the operations to date, police have arrested over 75 thousand suspects for various crimes.
“This includes 560 murder suspects, 604 suspects charged with attempted murder, and 470 rape suspects taken off the streets.
“We are making a clarion call on all those in the country to remain extra vigilant of their surroundings and minimize the risk of falling victim to crime.”
The SAPS calls on citizens to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement and continue to work closely with the police against the common enemy of crime.
