Bophelong receives 19 electricity transformers

“We want to apologize to the community that some of you spent Christmas in the dark and your children went to school on their first day without electricity, but those days are gone now, electricity will be restored," said Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

BOPHELONG – Residents of Bophelong were left with joy on Thursday, January 18, when Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi delivered 19 electricity transformers to their community.

Packing Fountain of Life Global Church, dozens of residents came out in their numbers to witness the handover and the switch on during the Siya Transformer, transformer replacement programme.

Lesufi was flanked by Emfuleni Local Municipality Mayor, Sipho Rade, and different MMCs including Nkosinathi Ndwandwe, Tumi Mochawe, Regina Makgala Lesoane, and City Power officials.

Following the meeting, Lesufi together with some City Power officials took a drive to different extensions in the kasi to oversee the switch on.

Before Lesufi delivered his keynote address, Mayor Radebe shared his sentiments on the arrival of transformers, alluding to growing crime due to the community being plunged into darkness.

“Take care of the little electricity you get. You know your challenges and we are here to help you deal with them. The crime rate is increasing because of electricity and today we are bringing you light. That light will restore the hope that was lost,” he said.

Addressing the gathered crowd who cheered his promises, Lesufi said he was happy to deliver transformers and put smiles on the people of Bophelong.

“I asked City Power to purchase transformers and deliver them to us [provincial government] so we can bring light to the people and today we are delivering some of those transformers. Today alone, I am bringing 19 transformers so our people should have electricity,” he said.

“We want to apologize to the community that some of you spent Christmas in the dark and your children went to school on their first day without electricity, but those days are gone now, electricity will be restored,” he added.

Panyaza touched on bad roads and mushrooming dumping sites in every corner of the Vaal that he is set to deal with.

We not going to end here. I told your mayor that the roads in Emfuleni are bad and not good for people. On the first of February, I’m going to start fixing 41 bad roads. These roads won’t be fixed with money from your municipality, they will be fixed with money from the provincial government,” he said.

“Vaal is very dirty and I don’t know if they only cleaning because I am coming. I am going to deal with those dumping sites as well. You can’t live in a place infested with rats. You are humans and deserve to live in a clean area,” he added.
