BOPHELONG – Sibusiso Motsamai (27) popularly known as Sbutja016 has arisen as a prominent artist in the music industry, representing the vibrant genres of hip-hop, kwaito, Amapiano, and Afro-pop.
Sbutja016’s journey in music began in 2008 when he was just in grade 7, using his phone to record his early compositions.
For the 27-year-old Bophelong-born star, music is not just a form of artistic expression, it is a medium through which he narrates his life experiences and predicts the future.
Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, Sbutja016 said he crafts lyrics that resonate with his audience, providing a window into his world.
“One of the driving forces behind my passion for music is my desire to express my emotions using this craft. As a naturally reserved individual, I found solace and empowerment in the ability to communicate my feelings through music,” he said.
“My unique approach has not only garnered me popularity but has also earned me a feature on TV One Mic, where I share the stage with notable artists such as Aewon Wolf and Fifi Cooper,” he added.
Sbutja016 feels his future in music will see him flourish as he has paved the way with some of his musical idols.
“I have engaged in live Instagram sessions with my musical idols Emtee and Rougee, showcasing the reach and impact of my work. This for me serves as a testament that my long-desired dreams are bound to happen,” he said.
Sbutja016’s dedication and unique approach to his music have propelled him to perform at various prestigious venues, including Club Partuma, VMC, Shiketa, Mpumalanga, and many more.
Despite his self-push, the youngster said he believes in collaborations and has been featured by many upcoming and prominent music stars in Mzansi.
“I have collaborated with a group of talented individuals, including Pretty Blvck, Freaky Stacks, SanzyNtuthu, Justsam, Babs Radebe, Sky Lady, and Sqombolo. I have also shared the stage with industry giants like Black Diamond, Malome Vector, Wave Rhyder, Ntate Stunna, Areece, Kamo Mphela, Oscar Mbo, Busta 929, Blxckie, and others,” he said.
Looking toward the future, Sbutja016 envisions himself as one of the most influential Sotho artists to emerge from Vaal.
