Worst is over: SAFA Lifetime President Dr Oliphant

What I can say is “Pele ya Pele” (Forward we go)."

SEDIBENG.- Former SAFA President, Dr Molefi Oliphant, who happens to be SAFA’s Lifetime President has praised Bafana Bafana after they reached the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Quarterfinals.

The spirited Bafana Bafana achieved this historical moment when they beat Morroco 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder, Teboho Mokoena and Orlando Pirate Striker, Evidence Makgopa were the goal scorers. Bafana Bafana came into this much-anticipated encounter with no one giving them a chance to beat the mighty Morocco. It was Makgopa’s first goal of the tournament after being heavily criticised by the South African public.

He rewarded Bafana Bafana Coach, Hugo Broos who seems to be the only one who has faith in this Pirates striker. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Dr Oliphant said Bafana Bafana must be complimented for showing resilience against Morocco. He further said that the worst was over after Bafana Bafana beat Morocco.

“We must appreciate the spirit of resilience displayed by the Bafana Bafana team against a No. 1 team in Africa. I believe the worst is over not because I’m undermining our next opponents but because we managed to overcome a strong opponent in Morocco. What I can say is “Pele ya Pele” (forward we go) because we have demonstrated that we can beat any team,” said Dr Oliphant, who is still much involved in football at the highest level.

Bafana Bafana will face Cape Verde in the quarterfinals, tomorrow, Saturday.
