Fire destroys house in Vanderbijlpark

Flames gutted a Vanderbijlpark house leaving families reeling in shock after losing all their belongings.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Three families in Vanderbijlpark were left distraught after their home was guttered down by raving flames.

According to occupants at house number 24 in Gillespie street, CW2 in Vanderbijlpark, the fire started around 08:00 in the morning on Wednesday, February 7.

A passerby saw the fire coming from a chimney from a lapper on the home’s rooftop.

When he called the residents to report the matter, flames had already engulfed the floor, moving to the house in the basement.

The family lost all their belongings in the fire after Emfuleni Fire and Rescue responded to the incident and helped distinguish the fire.

AfriForum was among the respondents during the incident who helped put out the raging flames.

Speaking to Sedibeng Ster, one of the occupants said they were sleeping in the house when they heard a loud knock at their door.

“The kids were busy playing outside when a stranger entered the yard screaming ‘The house is burning. Moments after the scream, I heard a loud bang on the door, when I opened, the fire eyewitness told me to vacate the house as the roof was on fire,” he said.

“We couldn’t take anything in the house as we quickly exited as the fire started moving from the roof. We are devastated by the fire because we have lost everything in it.”

Emfuleni Local Municipality was reached out for comment following their fire department response to the incident.

At the time of publishing this story, the spokesman had not reverted to the paper.
