BOIPATONG – Swift response by Boipatong police led to the arrest of a suspect after a man’s lifeless body was discovered last weekend.
Residents in Tugela Street were rocked by the gruesome discovery in the early hours of Sunday. Police were called to the scene where they found an African male identified only by his clothing [blue shirt with white stripes and a matching blue and white jacket] lying face-up and unresponsive on the ground.
Speaking to Ster, police spokesperson Sergeant Thembeka Maxambela said the scene raised red flags, prompting further investigation.
“Officers arrived to find the man in a concerning position. The complainant who discovered the scene reported finding the victim with two unidentified females present at the location. It was noted that the victim’s partner had received a message earlier indicating that he was not feeling well,” she said.
According to Maxambela the deceased’s body was swiftly transported to Medical Pathology services for further analysis.
“Further investigation led police to the Evaton area where two unlicensed firearms were recovered. This development added a new dimension to the investigation and police are working diligently to trace the origins of the firearms and their potential connection to the incident,” she said.
Maxambela confirmed one suspect has since been arrested on charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
“Investigations are underway as more suspects may be linked to the murder,” she added.
Police have urged anyone with information to step forward.
