MIDVAAL. – In a plight to improve the lives of a child headed family residing in Sicelo, Midvaal MMC for Development and planning and PR Councillor for ward 8, Thembi Modiba together with members of the community rolled up their sleeves in efforts to renovate their home.
The gesture was carried out as part of Modiba’s social upliftment campaign dubbed “A place called home”. The project, aimed to address the needs of a household occupied by three siblings who lost their parents. The eldest sibling, currently juggling odd jobs to support the family, had been struggling to maintain the home, which had fallen into disrepair.
Talking to Sedibeng Ster about the initiative, Modiba said that she was touched when she heard that the family became child headed after both parents passed away.
“Me and another community member who lives near the family were busy with another project in the area. When we passed the house, It was different from other houses in the area and that is what got me curious.
The house was not well maintained. I then asked the lady why the houses looked the way it did and that is when she explained the situation. Modiba said she felt the need to help make the situation better by lending a helping hand joined by community members who banded together to do good for the family.
Phase one of the renovation project focused on essential improvements, including painting the house, tiling the floors, and erecting a fence around the property, providing a safer and more dignified living environment for the siblings.
“This project is a testament to the power of community solidarity and the positive impact that can be achieved when we work together to uplift those in need,” Modiba said….
