Spreading warmth with blanket donations in Sharpeville

Jubilation was the order of the day for elders in Sharpeville as dozens received blankets from a kasi NPO and a popular booze outlet.

SHARPEVILLE – An idling Wednesday morning saw dozens of Sharpeville elders showered with blankets and spoiled with earnestly cooked cuisine.

Enjoying soothing, jazz music under a chilled stretch tent, about 50 elders spent a well-organised get-together in Putswastena, organised by Balaboza Inn and the Lukasi Parks Foundation.

Starting the day with a warm cup of coffee and cookies, and later accepting their soft and warm blankets, this is how a boring weekday was spent on quiet Raporoko Avenue.

Donating 50 blankets, organisers told Ster that the event was a mere gesture embodied by the spirit of giving back to the very same community it serves.

Speaking to Ster, founder of Balaboza, Tsietsi ‘Warden’ Moeti said his philanthropist partner, Mamaki Moeti, in business, felt compelled to give back on her birthday.

“This serves as an outing for them to socialise and enjoy time together. However, most importantly, we want to share the love and support they have given our establishment,” he said.

Moeti added that “We are in winter, we saw it fit to give them blankets so that they remain warm even in these cold times.”

Lukastro Dlamini, founder of Lukasi Parks Foundation and an associate of Balaboza, said, “We’ve done several projects in the past, such as donating soccer kits. We shifted our focus to the elderly, hence, we are giving back to the elders of our community. We will continue to work together with Balaboza and give more to the needy as we always do annually,” he said.

One of the beneficiaries, Sophia Moeti (68), said she was grateful for the donation.
