Horror crash on Golden Highway

“This is not the first time I’ve come across an accident here. This part of the road has become very dangerous," said one motorist.

VANDERBIJLPARK – Screeching tires, twisted metal, and stunned motorists.

This was the shocking scene on the Golden Highway on Sunday morning, June 15, after a terrifying crash between a Nissan double-cab bakkie and a grey Mazda sedan.

The two vehicles collided with a force, leaving debris scattered across the busy road and bringing peak-hour traffic to a halt, and leaving a queue of cars stretching for kilometres.

Eyewitnesses say the accident happened in a flash.

“It was an instant accident. All I recall was the deafening sound during the crash,” said one motorist.

Paramedics and emergency services rushed to the scene and worked swiftly to attend to the injured.

At least two people were treated on the scene for moderate injuries, while one occupant had to be rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

Motorists stuck in traffic could be seen stepping out of their vehicles, snapping photos, and expressing shock at the wreckage.

“This is not the first time I’ve come across an accident here. This part of the road has become very dangerous. Usually, cars crash because of speeding and reckless overtaking,” said a motorist.

Authorities temporarily closed off part of the highway to clear the scene and direct traffic, with delays lasting over an hour.
