Street vendor killed in hit-and-run

Police investigation underway after incident near Thabo Vuyo Centre.

SEBOKENG: Sebokeng Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide following a hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 26-year-old male.

The incident on July 23 happened near Thabo Vuyo Resource Centre when a speeding vehicle rammed a street vendor.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Nthabiseng Mokhachane confirmed the incident.

“Our officers were summoned next to Thabo Vuyo Resource Centre, and on arrival, witnesses pointed out to them a lifeless body of an African male who was lying on the ground,” she said.

Mokhachane said, “According to bystanders, the victim was driven over by a white unknown vehicle, which drove at high speed, and afterwards drove off without stopping.”

The deceased was declared dead on the scene by emergency medical services staff and taken to Sebokeng Forensic Pathology Services for further investigation.
